Nitish Kumar As UPA Convenor? Here Is What Happened At Opposition Meet

According to Kharge, the meeting was historic, and it was decided to unite all parties to fight the upcoming elections together.

New Delhi: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and no discussion was held to make Nitish Kumar the UPA Convener, said sources. In the presence of Rahul Gandhi, Nitish and his deputy Tejashwi met with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and pledged to unite all opposition parties against the BJP.

The meeting at Kharge's home comes in the midst of discussing like-minded opposition parties coming together on a common platform to overcome the BJP in the following year's Lok Sabha elections.

According to Kharge, the meeting was historic, and it was decided to unite all parties to fight the upcoming elections together.

According to Rahul Gandhi, the opposition's vision will be developed together as part of this process to unite the parties.

"We will take along all the parties together in this ideological battle. We will unitedly fight the attack on institutions and the country and will take an important step in this regard," Gandhi said.

Nitish Kumar said they would attempt to join increasingly more opposition parties. "We will together carry on efforts in this regard," he said.

In a tweet in Hindi, Kharge said, "Will preserve the Constitution and save democracy. Rahul Gandhi ji and we met Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ji, Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav ji and other leaders, reiterated our resolve to raise the voice of the people together and give a new direction to the country."

JDU president Lalan Singh, Bihar Congress chief Akhilesh Prasad Singh, Congress leader Salman Khurshid, and RJD leader Manoj Jha were also present for lunch at Kharge's residence.

In Bihar, the JDU, RJD, and Congress form a coalition government. The three parties are in talks to unite other opposition parties against the BJP on a common platform.

During his time in the national capital, Kumar is expected to meet a number of opposition leaders. He arrived on Tuesday.

Tejashwi Yadav is also in Delhi because he was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday in connection with a money laundering case that is related to the alleged land-for-jobs scam.

Recently, Kharge has spoken with a number of leaders from the opposition in an effort to unite parties with similar goals in order to defeat the BJP.

He has communicated with M K Stalin, the chief executive of Tamil Nadu, and Uddhav Thackeray, the former chief minister of Maharashtra, and he may meet with important opposition leaders in the coming weeks.
