'Phir Se Exam Ho': Rahul Gandhi Interacts With NEET UG Aspirants Demanding Re-Test — WATCH

NEET UG Aspirants 2024: Rahul Gandhi met with students affected by the NEET exam paper leak. They expressed frustration and demanded a re-exam. This comes after the Supreme Court dismissed pleas for a re-test.

NEET UG Aspirants 2024: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi engaged in a conversation with students affected by the recent NEET paper leak during a brief visit to Uttar Pradesh on Friday, addressing their grievances and discussing potential solutions. One student expressed frustration, stating, "We have been studying for so long; it’s been very difficult. There is no solution."

In response, Gandhi inquired, "What do you think the solution is?" The students replied, "The solution is to have a re-exam. That is the only solution." When asked if the paper was indeed leaked, the students confirmed. One of the students informed that the last NEET-UG test was his third attempt and he scored 600 out of 720 marks.

The Congress party shared a video of the interaction on their social media platform X, commenting, "The continuous paper leaks in the country are destroying the future of millions of students and their families. Our resolve is to ensure justice for the students."

The NEET-UG 2024 exam, taken by over 23 lakh students for admissions into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and related courses, has been mired in controversy following an unprecedented number of 67 students scoring a perfect 720, with six from a Haryana centre. This raised doubts about the exam's integrity. After revising the results on July 1, the number of candidates sharing the top rank was reduced to 61.

NEET-UG 2024 Exam Case: Supreme Court Dismisses Re-Test Pleas

The Supreme Court has found no evidence to conclude that the entire NEET-UG 2024 results were compromised or that there was a systemic breach in the exam's sanctity. On July 23, the apex court dismissed pleas for cancellation and a re-test, stating, "There is an absence of material on the record to lead to the conclusion that the entire result of the examination stands vitiated or that there was a systemic breach in the sanctity of the examination", news agency PTI reported.

The bench, comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra, stressed that ordering a re-test would have severe consequences for over two million students who appeared for the exam, disrupting the admission schedule and the overall medical education process.

The court also acknowledged the NEET paper leak incidents in Hazaribagh (Jharkhand) and Patna (Bihar), where about 155 students are prima facie beneficiaries of the fraud. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is continuing its probe, and actions will be taken against any student found involved in wrongdoing at any stage, regardless of the completion of the counselling process.

Additionally, the Supreme Court directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to revise its merit list by treating the answer suggested by a panel of three IIT Delhi experts to a controversial physics question as correct. This decision aims to provide certainty and finality to a dispute impacting the careers of over two million students.

Referring to the detailed 14-page interim order, the bench highlighted that a re-test could not be justified as it would be impossible to segregate the beneficiaries of the fraud from the genuinely successful candidates without causing significant disruption and disadvantage, particularly to students from marginalised communities.
