Rahul Gandhi divides Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh; Priyanka Gandhi gets 41, Jyotiraditya Scindia 39
Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday distributed the responsibility of 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh among newly appointed party general secretaries Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Jyotiraditya Scindia.
NEW DELHI: A day after mega roadshow in Lucknow, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday distributed the responsibility of 80 Lok Sabha constituencies in Uttar Pradesh among newly appointed party general secretaries Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Jyotiraditya Scindia. Rahul Gandhi has placed 41 parliamentary seats under the charge of Priyanka Gandhi and 39 parliamentary segments under Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Priyanka and Scindia were appointed AICC general secretary in-charge UP east and UP west respectively in January and took charge last week.
Among the constituencies placed under Priyanka Gandhi's charge were the key seats of Lucknow, Amethi, Raebareli, Sultanpur, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Phulpur, Allahabad, Barabanki, and Kushinagar.
Saharanpur, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Moradabad, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Pilibhit, Dhaurahra, Kanpur, and Farrukhabad, were some of the key constituencies placed under Scindia's charge.
The Congress had fared miserably during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections by winning just two of 80 seats in the state.
Priyanka Gandhi and Scindia, along with Rahul Gandhi, had held a grand roadshow in Lucknow on Monday, raising hopes of a turnaround in the party's fortunes. Virtually launching the party's Lok Sabha poll campaign, Rahul Gandhi had asserted that it was the time to uproot the BJP and form government in the state. Asserting that the party would "play on front foot", Rahul Gandhi on Monday said, "Till a Congress ideology government is installed here (UP), we will not rest, and ensure justice for farmers, the youth and the poor." "Their (Priyanka and Scindia) aim is definitely the Lok Sabha elections, but it is also to bring a Congress government here," he had said, adding, "the Congress began its journey from Uttar Pradesh and it cannot remain weak in the state... the Congress has to improve its performance in UP in the LS polls and from government in the next assembly elections".
