Rahul Gandhi Alleges 'Poll Hijacking' Conspiracy In Bihar, Says EC Acting As BJP's Wing

Rahul Gandhi accuses BJP and EC of plotting to rig Bihar polls, likens it to alleged voter list fraud in Maharashtra; vows INDIA bloc won't allow 'chunav chori' to happen again.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched a dual attack on the BJP and the Election Commission (EC), accusing them of conspiring to manipulate elections in Bihar — similar to what he alleged happened in Maharashtra. He also hit out at the Odisha government, claiming it is robbing the state's poor of their resources.

Speaking at a rally during the Samvidhan Bachao Samavesh in Bhubaneswar, Gandhi said:

“I was in Bihar yesterday. Just like 'chunav chori' (election theft) happened in Maharashtra, a similar attempt is underway in Bihar. The Election Commission has hatched a new conspiracy — it’s functioning like a BJP wing instead of an independent institution.”

He claimed that between the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections in Maharashtra, one crore new voters were mysteriously added.

“No one knows who these new voters are or where they came from. We repeatedly asked the EC for the updated voter list and videographic records, but they never provided them,” Gandhi said.

He asserted that the BJP and the EC plan to repeat the same "chori" (theft) in Bihar, but vowed that the INDIA alliance would prevent it.

“Yesterday in Bihar, I met with leaders of the INDIA alliance. Together, we have resolved not to let the EC and BJP steal the Bihar elections,” he added.

Turning his focus to Odisha, Gandhi accused both past and present governments of exploiting the state's resources for the benefit of a few wealthy individuals.

“The Government of Odisha has just one job — to steal the wealth of Odisha from the hands of the poor. Earlier, the BJD government did this, and now the BJP government is doing the same,” he alleged.

“On one side are the poor people of Odisha — Dalits, tribals, backward classes, farmers and labourers — and on the other side are 5-6 billionaires and the BJP government. This is a fight for justice. Only the Congress workers, along with the people of Odisha, can win this fight. No one else can,” Gandhi said.

His remarks come at a time when the BJP is pushing hard to expand its presence in Odisha, and opposition parties are intensifying efforts to challenge the ruling dispensation both at the Centre and in states.
