'Quit India Movement Reminds Us Of Modi Govt': Congress As BJP MPs Hold Protest Over 'Dynastic Politics'
Congress MP Venugopal's reaction came as BJP MPs held a demonstration with 'corruption quit India', 'family rule quit India' placards in Parliament premises.
The Congress on Wednesday questioned the relation BJP had with the Quit India Movement as MPs from the saffron party, in an attack on the Oppostion, held a demonstration in Parliament premises seeking the end of dynastic politics, corruption, and appeasement politics.
Congress MP and party general secretary KC Venugopal said the Quit India movement, launched by Mahatma Gandhi on this day in 1942, reminded "us of this government now".
"What is the relation between BJP & Quit India? Their people did not participate in the struggle for Independence. BJP is totally against the freedom movement. What is the point that they are saying something on Quit India Day? It is a historical day...We are asking for a debate in the Parliament in the presence of PM Modi. PM is not even coming to the Parliament...He is not talking about Manipur," ANI quoted Venugopal as saying.
Venugopal's reaction comes as BJP MPs held a demonstration with 'corruption quit India', 'family rule quit India' and 'appeasement quit India' placards in Parliament premises. BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi said people with mindset of British colonial legacy were still present under the guise of INDIA -- referring to the Opposition alliance.
Congress Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor also took to Twitter and said, "Ironic to see BJP members near Gandhiji’s statue in Parliament chanting slogans with the theme Quit India. Where were their ideological forebears 81 years ago? Supporting the British imperialist government."
Congress MP Manickam Tagore slammed the BJP, saying RSS never participated in Quit India. "Those from ex RSS must apologise to nation for their action. As ex-pracharak, Narendra Modiji must apologise before giving gyan on Quit India," Tagore said.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a fresh attack on the Opposition bloc Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), said, "Today, India is saying in one voice, Corruption Quit India, Dynasty Quit India and Appeasement Quit India."
