Punjab: Congress Infighting Continues As Sidhu Avoids Sharing Stage With New PCC Chief

Punjab: Post the event, Sidhu interacted with the media and said that the reason for Congress’ loss in the recent state elections was “mafia raj.”

New Delhi: Congress’ infighting in Punjab seems o have become more bitter as former party chief Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday joined a Punjab Congress Committee (PCC) event but did not go on the stage. As Congress inducted its new party chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday, the event was attended by Sidhu on a personal invitation from Warring. However, he confined himself to the office room. Another senior Congress leader and Ex-chief of PCC Sunil Jakhar did not attend the event.

Post the event, Sidhu interacted with the media and said that the reason for Congress’ loss in the recent state elections was “mafia raj.” He also targeted former Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi for colluding with the “termites.”

“Congress has to renew. I will openly say that Congress lost because of 5 years of mafia rule. I kept fighting against this mafia raj. This fight was against the system. There was a business of some people, which were eating the state like termites. CM was also involved in this,” Sidhu was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, there have been speculations of Sidhu starting his own party as he has been meeting with Congress workers who have been expelled from the party. The infighting within Congress became evident when Congress named Channi as their CM face for the assembly polls while Sidhu was eyeing the post for a while.

Congress lost Punjab to Aam Aadmi Party which bagged 92 seats to form a government with Bhagwant Mann
