In a statement issued by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the party said, “Hon’ble Congress President has appointed President and Working President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee and Leader and Deputy Leader of Punjab Congress Legislature Party as follows, with immediate effect.”

The statement further added, “The Congress president has appointed Pratap Singh Bajwa as Leader and Raj Kumar Chabbewal as deputy Leader of Punjab Congress Legislature Party in Punjab.”
While Warring won the recent assembly elections from the Gidderbaha constituency, Bajwa was elected as an MLA from the Qadian assembly constituency.
Notably, Warring has replaced the cricketer-turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had to resign after the Congress lost power in the recently conducted Punjab Assembly elections.
Following the party’s dismal performance in the five states – Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur – that went to polls recently, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi had asked the state Congress chiefs to resign.
She had also reshuffled the party units in Manipur and Goa.
