Following this, Charanjit Singh Channi is also likely to meet the Congress high command including Rahul Gandhi wherein he might give details about his conversation with Navjot Singh Sidhu.

New Delhi: Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence. The meeting between CM Channi and PM Modi lasted for nearly an hour. This is Charanjit Singh Channi's first meeting with the Prime Minister after he was sworn in as Punjab CM on September 20.

Following the meeting, the Punjab Chief Minister informed about the issues raised by him in front of the Prime Minister: “Although it was a courtesy call, I have shared 3 issues with him. Firstly, procurement season usually begins in Punjab on October 1 but this year, Centre has decided to begin it on October 10. I have requested him to start procurement now”.

“I asked the PM to resolve the matter of farmers' protest and resume dialogue with the protesting farmers. I demanded that the three laws be withdrawn,” he added, as quoted by news agency ANI.

“I also requested to the PM that the Kartarpur Corridor, which was closed due to COVID-19 pandemic, should be reopened at the earliest,” he informed.

Channi Likely To Meet Congress High Command

Following this, Charanjit Singh Channi is also likely to meet the Congress high command including Rahul Gandhi wherein he might give details about his conversation with Navjot Singh Sidhu.

After Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned as Punjab Congress president on September 28, a two-hour-long meeting was held between Channi and Sidhu on Thursday to resolve the fresh crisis. Sources after the meeting said an agreement has been reached over the former Punjab Congress President's demands.

In a video following his resignation, Sidhu expressed his disagreement over the appointment of the Director-General of Police (DGP) and Advocate General. He targeted the new DGP of the state and alleged that he implicated two young Sikhs in the Sacrilege case and gave a clean chit to the Badal family members.

Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, a senior IPS officer in the Channi government, has been given additional charge of the director-general of Punjab Police.

Besides this, Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Thursday gave a clear signal to launch his own political party and said he will no longer be in the Congress and resign from the party. He said he could not live in a party where he was insulted and not believed. At the same time, he also made it clear that he would not join the BJP.

Following the announcement, the former chief minister also removed the mention of Congress party from the bio on his Twitter handle.
