‘No Financial Aid For Wayanad, Only Negligible Assistance’: Priyanka Slams Centre, Promises Infra Support
During her 3-day visit, Priyanka acknowledged pressing difficulties faced by the locals in Wayanad's Sulthan Bathery, including drinking water shortages and delay in completing 12.5 km road project.

As part of her three-day Wayanad visit, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra assured residents of Vadakkanad village that she would take up their infrastructure concerns, including water shortages and an unfinished road project. She criticised the Centre’s inadequate aid for landslide victims and praised Kerala’s rehabilitation efforts. Priyanka laid foundation stones for key projects in Thavinhal Panchayat, including a Model Anganwadi, a women-run cafeteria, and a park, emphasising women’s role in sustainable enterprises. She also inaugurated multiple projects, including irrigation initiatives and a check dam.
Priyanka Gandhi, who won the 2024 Lok Sabha by-election from Wayanad, arrived in the district on Thursday for a three-day visit.
Expressing disappointment over the delay in constructing the crash guard iron rope fencing, she said: "It is sad that the crash guard iron rope fencing you have asked for has not been built despite money being sanctioned for it already... It is important for you to have a permanent structure, which, of course, costs a lot of money, which is why the government is reluctant to sanction money for them."
She said that she would write to the state government requesting them to respect your original demand of crash-guard fence.
Priyanka Lays Foundation Stones For Developmental Works
"Today, I'm laying the foundation stones for a Model Anganwadi, a take-a-break centre operated by Kudumbashree for tourists, and a women-run cafeteria and a park... Women always work with kindness and caring, which goes a long way in creating strong enterprises... Your (Thavinhal) Panchayat has a vast scope for tourism, so I am happy to see projects that will help build the tourism industry here," she said, as per ANI.
