According to news agency PTI, Murmu phoned opposition figures Sonia Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, and Mamata Banerjee to solicit their support for her candidacy.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President J P Nadda, and a number of other BJP officials were present as Droupadi Murmu filed her papers. PM Modi gave Returning Officer P C Mody the nomination papers for Murmu.
Murmu met with PM Modi, Shah, Singh, and Nadda in the capital the day before submitting her nomination.
The 64-year-old member of the Santhal group in Odisha was announced as the BJP-led NDA's presidential candidate on Tuesday night, only hours after former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha was chosen the joint nominee of the main opposition parties, including the Congress, TMC, and NCP.
Yashwant Sinha, a former Union minister and Trinamool Congress leader, has been selected the opposition's consensus candidate. His announcement of his candidacy came after the unified opposition's appeal for Sharad Pawar, Farooq Abdullah, and former West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi to run for president was rejected.
