Presidential Election: Why is ballot box known as 'Mr Ballot'?
New Delhi: The ballot box carrying paper votes of all the parliamentarians carries the fate of UPA and NDA Presidential candidates Meira Kumar and Ramnath Kovind respectively. The election which took place in 32 regions had Member of Parliament and Members of legislative assembly cast their vote via secret ballot using ballot paper.
The ballot boxes reached the parliament two days ago.
It is interesting to know that the boxes reaching Delhi from other resgions are named as ‘Mr Ballot Box’.
It gets us thinking that why is a mere box called with so much honour? The truth behind the same is, these ballot boxes are transported to Delhi via airplane and a ticket is purchased, and seat is booked in the Business class compartment for the ballot box.
The box is accompanied by a senior security official, who is given charge of maintaining the secrecy of the result.
The box is provided a proper seat in the plane and it rests next to the official, and is not transported as a cargo.
