Live: Ram Nath Kovind convincingly defeats Meira Kumar, gets over 65 per cent votes

NEW DELHI: Ram Nath Kovind, the NDA candidate, will be India's 14th president. Kovind convincingly defeated opposition's Meira Kumar, a former Lok Sabha speaker, winning more than 65 percent of the votes in the Electoral College. LATEST UPDATES:

  • The battle is between NDA candidate Ramnath Kovind, who has worked as a Governor of Bihar  and UPA candidate Meira Kumar, who has worked as a Lok Sabha speaker in the past.
  • According to Lok Sabha secretary general Anoop Mishra, first, the ballot box of Parliament House would be opened, and then, the ballot boxes received from states would be counted on alphabetical basis.
  • The votes would be counted on four separate tables and there would be eight rounds of counting.
