Prashant Kishor Taken To Patna Hospital For Check-Up After Suffering From Dehydration

Prashant Kishor has been hospitalised as he was found to be suffering from dehydration on Tuesday, a day after he was arrested for an "illegal" fast unto death and then released on bail.

According to a PTI report, Jan Suraaj Party leaders took Kishor to a private healthcare facility in Patna where he will undergo a comprehensive medical check-up.

"There are certain medical issues that need to be thoroughly examined. He is suffering from infection and dehydration. He is also weak and feeling discomfort," said a doctor who paid him a visit at his home.

Before leaving for hospital, Kishor, told reporters: "My fast unto death will continue".

On Monday morning, police detained the Jan Suraaj Party founder, following an FIR filed against him last week for holding a ‘fast unto death’ at Gandhi Maidan, violating a Patna High Court order that forbids any such demonstration at a place other than Gardani Bagh locality in the city. He was later released on bail.

Speaking to reporters before being taken to Beur Central Jail, Prashant spoke about his arrest, stating, "After being picked up at 4 AM, I was taken to AIIMS, Patna, for a medical examination, but the doctors refused to conduct it for reasons best known to them. Between 5 AM and 11 AM, the police kept driving me around in their ambulance, never revealing the location. When I inquired, they claimed they were trying to get me examined at PMCH or NMCH."

He further alleged that he was eventually taken to a community health centre in Fatuha, on the outskirts of Patna, where he refused consent for a medical test. "The doctors refused to issue a bogus certificate," he claimed, as per PTI.

Political strategist-turned-politician Kishor started the indefinite hunger strike on January 2 in Patna, over the ongoing row over the alleged paper leak in the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination.

Kishor, who earlier joined the students' agitation in Patna, began his hunger strike under the Gandhi statue in Gandhi Maidan against the poor condition of BPSC students and the education system in Bihar. He said his primary demand was “cancellation of the exam held on December 13 and conducting a fresh test.” He said he heard “allegations that posts to be filled by the exam were virtually put on sale”.
