Navy Day 2023: PM Modi Unveils Statue Of Chhatrapati Shivaji In Maharashtra’s Sindhudurg

PM Narendra Modi unveiled the statue of the legendary Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji at the Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra as he also participated in the 'Navy Day 2023' celebrations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday unveiled the statue of the legendary Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji at the Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra. The ceremony was part of the Prime Minister's visit to Maharashtra, where he also participated in the 'Navy Day 2023' celebrations at Sindhudurg, attending operational demonstrations by Indian Navy ships, submarines, aircraft, and special forces at Tarkarli beach.

Following the unveiling, Prime Minister Modi attended the 'Navy Day 2023' celebrations at Sindhudurg, which included operational demonstrations by the Indian Navy's ships, submarines, aircraft, and special forces at Tarkarli beach. The Prime Minister inspected the Guard of Honour at Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg district, honouring the maritime heritage of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Addressing the event, Indian Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar highlighted that "After 300 years of subjugation, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj carved out swarajya. He had the foresight to invest in sea power, Sindhudurg fort here is a testament to it", as quoted by news agency PTI.

Navy Day is observed on December 4 every year. The 'Navy Day 2023' celebrations at Sindhudurg held special significance as they paid homage to the rich maritime heritage of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. His seal inspired the new Naval Ensign, adopted last year when the Prime Minister commissioned the first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant.

The tradition of organising 'Operational Demonstrations' on Navy Day provides "an opportunity to the people to witness various facets of multi-domain operations undertaken by the Indian Navy. It highlights the Navy’s contributions towards national security to the public, while also heralding maritime consciousness amongst citizens", the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) stated.
