New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 95-year-old mother Heeraben on Tuesday was escorted to a bank in Gandhinagar to exchange old currency notes. Heeraben came on a wheelchair, stood in the Oriental Bank of Commerce queue, waited for her turn, and signed the documents to get access to the new Rs 500 and Rs 2000 currency noted issued by the RBI. Reports say the money were withdrawn from PM Modi’s younger brother Pankaj’s account. After receiving the money, she smilingly flashed the currency notes to media persons sending out a message in support of demonetisation. Heeraba lives with Prime Minister Modi's younger brother Pankaj Modi in Raisan on the outskirts of Gandhinagar. The PM had visited his mother on September 17 this year to take her blessings on his 66th birthday. Heeraba is known to lead a very simple life and travels in public transport.Last time when she visited Gandhinagar civil hospitalfor a regular check-up, she was seen going in an autorickshaw. Modi had on November 8 announced scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes to curb black money menace.
