PM Modi On 2-Day US Visit From Feb 12, To Hold First Bilateral Meeting With Trump Since His Return: Report

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the United States on February 12 for a two-day trip where he will hold talks with President Donald Trump.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to the United States on February 12, reported PTI quoting people familiar with the matter.

Modi will travel to Washington DC after concluding his two-day visit to Paris, the report stated.

This will be PM Modi's first bilateral visit to the US after Donald Trump returned to the White House last month and both the leaders are expected to hold wide-ranging talks.

Last week, Modi and Trump held their first phone call after the latter's comeback to the White House. They discussed plans for PM Modi's visit to the US, said the White House in a readout.

The two leaders discussed a range of regional issues, including security in the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East, and Europe.

"The President emphasised the importance of India increasing its procurement of American-made security equipment and moving toward a fair bilateral trading relationship. The leaders discussed plans for Prime Minister Modi to visit the White House, underscoring the strength of the friendship and strategic ties between our nations," the White House stated.

"Both leaders emphasised their commitment to advance the U.S.-India strategic partnership and the Indo-Pacific Quad partnership, with India hosting Quad Leaders for the first time later this year," the readout stated further.

Later, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One while returning from Florida to Washington DC, Trump spoke on America's ties with India.

"I had a long talk with him (Modi) this morning and he is going to be coming to the White House in the next month, probably in February,” Trump said.

Modi is expected to fly to the US after his two-day visit to France, where he will attend AI Action Summit on February 10 and 11 at the Grand Palais.

The summit is being hosted by the French government and will bring together global leaders, business executives, academics, and civil society members who will discuss the advancements and regulations in artificial intelligence.
