PM Modi To Chair Sixth Niti Aayog Meeting Today, Mamata Banerjee & Amarinder Singh To Give It A Miss
The Niti Aayog’s governing council meets regularly. This will be the sixth meeting of the government think tank’s apex body and will be chaired by PM Modi.
PM Narendra Modi will chair the sixth meeting of Governing Council of NITI Aayog today via video conferencing. According to a statement released by PMO, deliberations on agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing, human resource development, service delivery at the grassroots level, and health & nutrition to be taken up in the meeting.
The sixth meeting will witness the entry of Ladakh for the first time, in addition to the participation of Jammu and Kashmir as Union Territory. This time, other UTs headed by administrators have also been invited to join.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to skip the Niti Aayog's governing council meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today, according to a report by PTI.
Banerjee had earlier skipped the Niti Aayog's meetings and termed it as a "fruitless" exercise, alleging that the body has "no financial power" and cannot support the state plans.
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will also give the Niti Aayog's meeting a miss. As per ANI, State Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal will attend the meeting in his place.
The council, the top body of the government's think tank, includes all Chief Ministers, Lieutenant Governors of Union Territories (UTs), several Union Ministers, and senior government officials.
The meeting will also be attended by the ex-officio members of the Governing Council, Union Ministers, Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar, Members and CEO of NITI Aayog Amitabh Kant, and other senior officials of the Government of India.
