PM Modi's Ferozepur Rally In Punjab Postponed Due To Inclement Weather

PM Modi's rally in Ferozepur has been cancelled after rain continued to lash parts of Punjab

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Ferozepur rally has been postponed after incessant rainfall lashed parts of Punjab on Wednesday. PM Modi had reached Ferozepur on Wednesday afternoon and was welcomed by Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal.

According to ABP News sources, PM Modi's rally was postponed as the weather remained inclement in many parts of Punjab, including Bathinda and Ferozepur.

PM Modi is now returning travelling to Bathinda by road and will head towards Delhi from there.

Hours before his Punjab visit, the prime minister in a tweet on Wednesday said that he was looking forward to "being among my sisters and brothers of Punjab today".

"At a programme in Ferozepur, foundation stones for development works worth Rs 42,750 crore will be laid, which will improve the quality of life for the people," Modi said in a tweet.

Sources also told to ABP News that PM Modi's election rally in Lucknow which is scheduled for January 9 is likely to be cancelled in view of inclement weather alert in Uttar Pradesh. 

PM Modi visited Punjab first time after repeal of Farm Laws

The Prime Minister visited poll-bound Punjab after a gap of two years and it is his first trip to the state after the repeal of the farm laws by his government. . The three legislations had led to a year-long farmers' stir at Delhi borders.

The prime minister had to lay the foundation stones of development projects, including the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway and a PGIMER satellite centre.

The projects also included four-laning of the Amritsar-Una section, Mukerian-Talwara broad gauge railway line and two new medical colleges at Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur.

Rain lashes parts of Punjab

Rains lashed parts of Punjab including Ferozepur which led to the cancellation of PM Modi's election campaign.The minimum temperatures on Wednesday hovered above normal limits in Punjab and Haryana.

Among other places in Punjab, rains lashed Union Territory Chandigarh, Bathinda, Mohali, Pathankot and Jalandhar.

Amritsar recorded a low of 11 degrees Celsius while Ludhiana's minimum settled at 11.9 degrees and Patiala recorded a low of 11.8 degrees while Ferozepur registered a low of 12.2 deg C, according to the Meteorological Department's weather report here.

Faridkot (11.8 degrees), Gurdaspur (12.3 deg C), Bathinda (14 deg C), Jalandhar (11.3 deg C) and Sangrur (11.1 deg C) also recorded above normal minimum temperatures.

Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, recorded above normal low of 12.3 degrees Celsius.

In Haryana, Ambala recorded a low of 12.7 degrees while Hisar's minimum settled at 10.9 degrees Celsius.
