Prabowo Subianto's Victory In Indonesian Polls
Indonesian Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto clinched victory in the country's presidential polls on February 15, as reported by Al Jazeera. The 72-year-old former special forces commander, who had previously contested the presidency twice and faced defeat, emerged triumphant this time around.
Addressing a crowd of jubilant supporters at a stadium in Jakarta, Prabowo said he was "grateful" for the quick results. Alongside him stood his running mate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the eldest son of outgoing President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, reported ANI.
"We should not be arrogant, we should not be proud, we should not be euphoric, we still have to be humble, this victory must be a victory for all Indonesian people," ANI quoted Prabowo as saying.
Prabowo was the front-runner going into the poll, thanks to the apparent support of Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi.
