'If They Were Really Concerned...': PM Modi Slams Oppn For 'Stalling' Women's Quota Bill For Three Decades

Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that the opposition parties have been stalling the women's reservation bill for three decades.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (September 27) said that opposition parties hindered the progress of the women's reservation bill for three decades, only to now attempt to sow divisions among women based on caste and religion, despite the bill's recent passage.

"Opposition stalled the women's reservation bill for three decades, look at their track record. They are trying to divide women in the name of caste and religion when the bill has been passed," remarked Modi, addressing thousands of women at Vadodara's Navlakhi ground during the event.

"These are the same people who mocked me when I talked about toilets for women and when I talked about Jan Dhan accounts for women. They mocked the Ujjwala Yojana... When we were talking about liberating Muslim women from triple talaq, they were concerned about their political equations," he said.

"They were not worried about the rights of Muslim women, they were only concerned about their vote bank... When the law against Triple Talaq was brought, why did they not stand for the rights of Muslim Women?" he asked.

Earlier in the day, while speaking at an event to mark 20 years of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, PM Modi asserted that ‘the event started at a time when Centre was indifferent to industrial progress of state’. And further praising how successful it became over the years, he said, we sowed small seed of Vibrant Gujarat 20 years ago, today it has developed into a big tree.

Speaking about the 20 year old long journey, he said, "When Vibrant Gujarat was started, there were no big hotels in Gujarat where foreign guests could stay. Even govt guesthouses used to get full and we used even University guesthouses..."

Quoting Swami Vivekananda, PM Modi on Wednesday said “Swami Vivekananda said every work goes through 3 stages- 1st it is mocked, later it faces opposition and finally accepted."
