‘Pin-Drop Silence In Opposition’: BJP Hits Back As Delhi Services Bill Passes In Lok Sabha

The Bill was passed in the Lower House of the Parliament after four-hour-long debate which was replied to by Union minister Amit Shah.

Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday hit back at the Opposition which came down heavily on the BJP-led Centre as the Delhi services Bill was passed in Lok Sabha. The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was passed in Lok Sabha on Thursday amid a walkout by the Opposition which termed the Bill unconstitutional. "We staged a walkout as we were not being allowed to raise our voice in the Parliament," said Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary.

The Bill was passed in the Lower House of the Parliament after four-hour-long debate which was replied to by Union minister Amit Shah.

Hitting back at the Opposition and praising Shah, Union minister Anurag Thakur said, "The manner in which the Union Home Minister spoke not only on the Delhi Bill but also tore down the atmosphere of confusion created by the Opposition, he also presented facts...There was pin-drop silence in the Opposition. They could not answer anything because they had none. Truth came out before the country once again."

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad also lauded Shah and targeted the Opposition.

"The Home Minister gave an impactful speech. He tore into the Opposition that they ran away from discussion on important public issues and obstructed the proceedings. The truth of the Kejriwal Govt came out today...I would like to tell the JD(U) national president that Lalan Singh was with us over the CBI inquiry into the fodder scam...Lalu Yadav and others were convicted. What has happened? What is this 'lok-laaj'...This is called the heights of opportunism," he said.

Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi called out the Congress for walking out and said “they didn't have the numbers and this Bill will be passed. So, they walked out."

BJP MP Kirron Kher said, "Did they (AAP) have any arguments, all the arguments were presented by Home Minister Amit Shah. Sheila Dikshit governed here for long, BJP governed here for long but they never created such a situation. They should know what they do so that this has to be done."
