'Perhaps It Is Fake...': Kejriwal Hits Out At PM Modi After Court Ruling On Degree Certificate

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has reacted to Gujarat High Court's decision that the PMO need not furnish the degree and post-graduate degree certificate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A day after the Gujarat High Court ruled that the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) need not furnish the degree and post-graduate degree certificate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal alleged that perhaps 'PM Modi's degree is fake'. In a media address on Saturday, Kejriwal raised several questions about PM Modi's education and some of his comments during several previous events. Pertinently, the Court also imposed costs of Rs 25,000 on Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal who had sought details of the PM's degree certificate.

Quoting several remarks made by PM Modi earlier, Kejriwal said, "There are several comments that PM Modi has made and which comes as a surprise to countrymen. Once he said one can make tea on the gas coming out of drains and on other occasions- he said that a plane can be saved from radar detection if it stays behind clouds."

The Delhi CM claimed that the comments have surprised Army personnel, students and scientists.

Kejriwal further said that the Prime Minister was talking about a mathematical formula in Canada that he couldn't explain and the citizens of India felt embarrassed due to it.

Speaking on the concern of climate change, the CM said, "Once PM Modi was telling children that climate change is nothing. If the PM will say so, how will we be able to act on it? I could see children in the event smiling silently over his statement."

He said these incidents raise doubt over the credibility of the education of our Prime Minister. He claimed that he saw a video in which the PM was saying that he (PM) had gone to schools in the village and did not pursue any higher education.

Kejriwal On Need Of Educated PM

Arvind Kejriwal said that being uneducated is not an offence and many students remain away from quality education due to a dearth of resources.  However, he insisted that at present, the country needs an educated Prime Minister as a PM has to take hundreds of decision in one day. He said if the PM will not be educated then officers around him would influence him.

He gave the example of demoetisation and said, "Demonetisation shook the nation and took the country's development ten years back. If the PM would have been educated, demonetisation would never have been implemented."

He also talked about the Goods and Services Tax (GST). "GST was a brilliant concept but was not implemented properly wreaking havoc in Indian markets. If we would had an educated PM, the policy would have been implemented carefully."

He lashed out at the PM for the manner in which the three farm laws were passed and accused the Modi government of avoiding any discussion on the bill. He said since it was not done by an educated PM, the laws were taken back.

Kejriwal further claimed that around 60000 schools were closed in India in the last year which means that education is not being given due importance in policies.

Response On Gujarat HC Order

Referring to the order of Gujarat HC, Kejriwal said that the order has further raised doubts on PM Modi's degree. He said that once in a press conference, Home Minister Amit Shah had shown some degree of the Prime Minister.

"If he has completed his degrees from Gujarat and Delhi Universities, they should be proud that their student has become the Prime Minister of the country," he added.

Speaking of the possible reasons behind this, he said, "One reason could be the ego that who are we to ask for the degrees...which should not be there in a democracy as anyone can ask and demand anything."

"Secondly, it is possible that perhaps his degrees are fake. If he has studied at the said universities, what is the reason for hiding it? There are so many questions and doubts that citizens want to ask," the Delhi claimed.
