Pegasus Row: Was Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray Spied On? Sanjay Raut Says 'Won't Be Surprised'

While talking to the media on Monday, Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said that this is the biggest game played with the security of the country.

Mumbai: The opposition is attacking the Union government after getting the reports alleged that politicians, journalists and several notable personalities were spied on through the Israeli company's software Pegasus.

This matter was taken up during the monsoon session in the Parliament on Monday. However, the government completely rejected the media reports of phone tapping. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena has accused the government of fraudulently tapping the conversations of Maharashtra's Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

While talking to the media on Monday, Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut said that this is the biggest game played with the security of the country. "When our government was being formed in Maharashtra, the matter of tapping came to the fore," Raut said

"This time, a foreign company is being used. I won't be surprised if the phone of Maharashtra's Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was tapped. Prior to the Parliament session," the Shiv Sena spokesperson further said adding that this issue will be raised in the Parliament.

PM Modi and the Home Minister are requested to come forward and give their explanation on this, he asserted.

Earlier, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi also attacked the government, by taking up the phone tapping case. Owaisi said: "Hacking is hacking, not tapping. Hacking is a crime, whether it is done by any person or any government". He asked the government to answer two things. First, did it use NSO spyware? Did the government spy on the names mentioned in the media reports or not?

Retired IAS Surya Pratap Singh has also targeted the government by tweeting on the Pegasus case. He further questioned why were all these phone tappings done. "What was the danger? They strangled democracy," he added.
