Pathankot: Unidentified bag found with tower batteries, string of incidents raise suspicion
Chandigarh: A string of events have been taking place in Pathankot in the last few days, which are forcing the police to tighten their noose and get alerted. A day after four to six suspicious men were spotted in Pathankot, the cops have on Thursday recovered an unidentified bag near Mamyun Army cantonment in Pathankot.
On opening the bag, two mobile tower batteries were found in them.
On Wednesday the police had been informed about four to six suspicious people been sighted in Gurdaspur area. The Punjab Police, who didn’t want to take any chance, launched a search operation immediately after the incident.
The suspicion rose after an incident in Gurdaspur district on Tuesday where a Scorpio SUV broke a police barrier and drove past it. The cops, who don’t want to take any risk, are linking the Tuesday incident to the tip-off received.
As per an officer who was an eye-witness when the SUV jumped the barrier, at least six people were present in the car which was later found abondened.
As per the officer, the vehicle had a fake registration plate and was stolen at a knife-point from a resident of Vijaynagar area in Jammu.
Security agencies remained on high alert in border districts of Gurdaspur and Pathankot following the terrorist attacks on the Pathankot Air Force base in January 2016 and in Dinanagar town in Gurdaspur district in July 2015.
Both districts share an international border with Pakistan. Both districts are close to the strife-torn Jammu and Kashmir.
The Pathankot attack was a turning point in the relation between India and Pakistan, as the issue was raised at International forums and was extensively condemned by India.
