New Delhi: The Navi Mumbai Metro is scheduled to be partially opened by December this year. Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Vice Chairman and MD, City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) gave the details. Dr Mukherjee said that the trials for the metro line are being conducted by Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO).
While talking to Mid-Day, he also highlighted the work being done on the Navi Mumbai metro. He said that the Navi Mumbai Metro will be linked to three railway stations, including two from the local network, for seamless integration.
CIDCO has appointed Maha Metro for the remaining works of Metro Line 1 from Belapur to Pendhar. The work of the main viaduct, depot approach viaduct, depot-cum-workshop has been completed.
Station work, elevators, escalators, furniture, and systems work are in progress. Recently, RDSO conducted an oscillation trial and Emergency Braking Distance trial from Pendhar to Central Park, a distance of 5.14 km.
The development work of the stations is almost complete. There will be a link at Belapur station and Kharghar stations of the suburban railway at Metro station 1 and 3, respectively. In addition, Taloja station on the CR’s Diva-Panvel line is a possible link to Konkan Railway.
A three-car train will be sufficient for current needs with a peak 8-minute frequency, which can be enhanced up to 3 minutes to accommodate more passengers. In the long run, a 3-car configuration can be extended to a 6-car depending on the requirements and the relevant infrastructure that is ready for this purpose.
