Lok Sabha Witnesses Uproar Over Adani, George Soro Issues

Meanwhile, Lok Sabha proceedings on Monday witnessed repeated disruptions, culminating in an adjournment for the day. Opposition protests over allegations involving billionaire George Soro linking him to Congress, and the Adani issue dominated the session.

When the House convened at 11 a.m., opposition members immediately raised slogans. Speaker Om Birla urged the members to allow the proceedings to continue, stating, “Question Hour is significant. Allow the House to function properly. But you don't want to allow the House to run. The country wants the House to run. You are disrupting the proceedings of the House.” Despite his appeals, the uproar led to adjournments at 12 noon, 2 p.m., and finally for the day by 3 p.m.

Congress members, supported by Samajwadi Party (SP), raised slogans such as "Modi Sarkar down down" and "We want justice." SP member Dharmendra Yadav voiced concerns about farmers, remarking, “Pure desh ka kisan pareshan hai” (Farmers across the country are distressed). Congress members also cited their submission of privilege motion notices against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who had alleged links between Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi and George Soros-backed outfits engaged in anti-India activities.

TMC and RJD members joined the protests, with leaders like Saugatha Roy, Kalyan Banerjee, and Mahua Moitra among the vocal critics. Parliamentary papers were tabled despite disruptions, with Congress notices being considered by Speaker Birla, according to BJP MP Sandhya Ray, who chaired parts of the session.

The House attempted to move forward with the Rail (Amendment) Bill 2024, but unyielding opposition protests derailed proceedings. The winter session, which commenced on 25th November, has seen limited productivity, with disruptions over Adani’s indictment in a US court and Sambhal violence.

Last week, BJP’s Nishikant Dubey claimed there was an “international conspiracy to derail India’s success story under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi countered these allegations, leading to further turmoil. The Lok Sabha had only two functional days—Tuesday and Wednesday—during the previous week.
