Parliament's Winter Session Likely To Conclude Today, A Day Ahead Of Schedule
This winter session of Parliament commenced on November 29 and was scheduled to end on December 23.
New Delhi: As the opposition continues to create disruptions over multiple issues in parliament proceedings it is being learned that the winter session of Parliament will likely conclude on Wednesday, a day ahead of its proposed schedule.
Parliamentary sources inform news agency PTI that the government has completed most of its legislative agenda, there is a likelihood that Parliament could be adjourned sine die on Wednesday.
This winter session of Parliament commenced on November 29 and was scheduled to end on December 23.
This has remained a stormy session as the opposition cornered the government on issues such as the suspension of 12 MPs from Rajya Sabha, MoS Ajay Misra Teni's resignation as SIT finds out that his son's involvement in Lakhmipur violence was a planned event, repeal of Farm Laws amidst others.
While the proceedings might have been halted several key bills have already been passed in both the houses of parliament like the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill 2021, Narcotic and Rehabilitation (Amendment) Bill 2021, NDPS (Amendment) Bill, and also introduced the much-talked Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill, which aims to increase the marriage age of women from 18 to 21.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday TMC MP Derek O'Brien was also suspended from attending Rajya Sabha proceedings for the rest of the Winter session due to his 'unruly behaviour'.
Derek O'Brien has been accused of throwing the Rajya Sabha rule book towards the Chair during the discussion on Election Laws (Amendment Bill) 2021. The TMC MP was suspended after the House passed a motion moved by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan in this regard.
