Rahul, Kharge Tear 'SIR', Dump It In Dustbin As Oppn Continues Protest In Parliament: WATCH

Leaders like Rahul Gandhi symbolically tore the SIR. Parliament proceedings were disrupted, and opposition MPs marched, demanding a rollback and discussion.

Opposition parties, including the Congress, continued their protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar on Friday.

Several opposition leaders, including the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi and the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, symbolically tore the SIR and dumped it in a dustbin to protest against the EC's move in poll-bound Bihar.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav, along with various MPs of INDIA, also participated in the protest outside the Parliament.

They also staged a protest march in Parliament House complex, calling for the rollback as well as a discussion on the issue in both houses. According to Election Commission, Friday is the last date for submitting documents by the electors for the SIR.

The issue of SIR dominated Friday's proceedings of the Parliament, where the Monsoon session is underway. Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the fourth day straight as the opposition created a ruckus.

Congress MP Pramod Tiwari alleged the SIR exercise by the Election Commission of India as "murder of democracy".  "This is murder of democracy. We will continue our fight against it in every democratic way," he said.

"It is a classic conspiracy of disenfranchisement," said Congress MP Manish Tewari.

What the Election Commission is saying is that all previous electoral rolls, including the ones on which the 2024 election was conducted, were allegedly fraudulent. Therefore, an exercise or verification is done only when new voters are enrolled or if there is an objection to an existing voter," he added.

Before the proceedings for the day began, MPs from several opposition parties, including those of the Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party, TMC, RJD and Left parties, carried out a protest march with the banner 'SIR- Loktantra par Var'.
