Parliament Monsoon Session LIVE Updates: Hello and welcome to ABP News Live Blog. Please follow the space and keep refreshing the page for all the latest updates pertaining to the ongoing Monsoon session of Parliament. The proceedings of Parliament began on a stormy note on Thursday with Opposition MPs stating a walkout from Rajya Sabha after being denied discussion on wrestler Vinesh Phogat's disqualification from Paris Olympics. Speaking on the issue in the Upper House, Union Minister JP Nadda said, "The whole country is standing with Vinesh Phogat. Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) yesterday called her “Champion of champions" and the PM’s voice is the voice of 140 crore people. Unfortunately, we are dividing this between the ruling side and the opposition. Unfortunately, the opposition does not have any solid issue which they want to discuss for which the ruling party is ready... I want to assure you that Govt of India, Sports Ministry and IOC tried redressal on all platforms..."
Meanwhile, the Opposition, led by Congress also opposed the introduction of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. The government moved the Bill proposing significant changes to the 1995 law in the Lower House today. The Bill proposes the inclusion of Muslim women on Waqf boards and ensures verification of land before a board announces it as a Waqf property. While the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has termed the proposed move as ‘unacceptable’, The INDIA bloc parties said they will oppose any changes to the Waqf Act.
Opposition parties have demanded that the Waqf (Amendment) Bill be sent to Parliament's standing committee for scrutiny after it is introduced, with the government telling the Business Advisory Committee that it will take a call after assessing the sense of Lok Sabha. The government said at the Committee's meeting that it will not press for discussion on the Bill and its passage following its introduction in Lok Sabha on Thursday. There is a strong possibility that the government may agree to refer the Bill, which is being opposed by some Muslim organisations, to a parliamentary panel, according to a report by news agency PTI.
