Adamant Oppn Continues Protests In Parliament, Both Houses Adjourned Within Minutes

Despite the protest, both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha convened but were quickly adjourned due to the opposition's sloganeering.

The INDIA bloc continued its protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar on Wednesday. Opposition MPs, including the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also participated in the protest.

Amidst the protest, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha convened for the business of the day, but both Houses were adjourned shortly following sloganeering by Opposition MPs. The Houses reconvened at 12 noon only to be adjouned again amid ruckus by the opposition.

While NDA ally Janata Dal (United) said the Election Commission of India is carrying out the exercise in the poll-bound state to remove bogus voters, the opposition asserted that votes were being banned through this exercise.

"The Election Commission is doing this exercise to remove bogus voters. EC has clearly said that no genuine voter will be left out...," said JD(U) MP Sanjay Kumar Jha.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's participation in the discussion on SIR in Parliament.

"The Election Commission is doing the work of banning votes in Bihar. It can only be done with the consent of PM Modi and Union HM Amit Shah," Gogoi said. "We want PM Modi to participate in the discussions of SIR, and he should inform us when the discussions on Operation Sindoor and SIR will take place," he added.

The opposition also spoke on the shock resignation by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar who stepped down from the post citing health reasons. The opposition, however, asserted that there's more than what meets the eye in the case.

"There is more to the story than what meets the eye," said Congress MP Praniti Shinde.

Pramod Tiwari, another Congress MP said it "appears he was asked to resign."

"Vice President post was insulted...There wasn't even a farewell speech. This is an insult to farmers and the Constitution of India...," he added.
