PM Didn't Pay Tributes To Those Who Lost Lives In Maha Kumbh: Rahul Gandhi On Modi's LS Speech

Rahul Gandhi criticised Prime Minister Modi for not paying tribute to victims of the Maha Kumbh Mela stampede in his Lok Sabha speech.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday flagged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the recently-concluded Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.

Ruckus ensued PM Modi's speech in the Lower House on Tuesday where he described the Maha Kumbh Mela as an important milestone and told the Lok Sabha that the event is a befitting response to those who questioned India's capability to organise such a large congregation.

The opposition MPs rose from their seats and protested against Modi's remark after which the House was briefly adjourned till 1 pm. '

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla repeatedly urged the protesting members to return to their seats but when they refused to comply, he adjounred the House.

Won't Let LoP Speak: Rahul Gandhi

Reacting to PM Modi's remark, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said that the PM did not pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the grand festival.

"We support what the PM said, Kumbh is our history and culture. Our only complaint is that the PM did not give Shraddhanjali to those who lost their lives in Kumbh," he said while speaking to reporters outside the Parliament.

"The youth who went to the Maha Kumbh also wants one more thing from the PM, which is employment... As per the democratic structure, the LoP should get an opportunity to speak, but they won't let us. This is new India," he added.

On January 29, around 30 people were killed and hundreds injured in a pre-dawn stampede that occurred on the auspicious day of Mauni Amawasya in the Sangam area of Maha Kumbh.

Another stampede took place on February 18 at the New Delhi Railway Station when people reached the facility in huge numbers to attend the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. At least 18 people were killed in the crowd crush, according to official figures.
