Pakistan Violates Ceasefire Along LoC In J&K For 6th Straight Night
Pakistan had also initiated unprovoked firing in Jammu and Kashmir's Akhnoor sector on the night of April 28-29 and in Poonch and Kupwara districts on the night of April 27-28.
Pakistan continued with its ceasefire violations for the sixth consecutive night as it initiated unprovoked firing across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir opposite the Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor sectors, a statement by the Indian Army said.
The Pakistani troops engaged in small-arms fire along the LoC on the intervening night of April 29-30. The Indian Army responded swiftly and proportionately to the ceasefire violation, which comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the deadly terror attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam last week.
"During the night of 29-30 April, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the Line of Control opposite the Naushera, Sunderbani and Akhnoor sectors in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. Indian Army troops responded swiftly and proportionately," a statement by the Indian Army noted, as reported by news agency ANI.
Pakistan Violates Ceasefire In J&K's Poonch, Kupwara
During the night of April 28-29, the Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked small-arms firing across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara and Baramulla districts and the Akhnoor sector. It had also resorted to unprovoked firing in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch and Kupwara districts on the night of April 27-28, prompting action by the Indian troops.
"During the night of April 27-28, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts. Indian troops responded swiftly and effectively," a defence spokesperson had said. There were no reports of any casualty.
Similar incidents took place on the intervening nights of April 25-26 and April 26-27 as the Pakistani Army fired at different positions along the LoC, but meeting with a response from Indian troops every time.
India had announced a raft of measures in view of the cross-border linkages to the Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives. These included the suspension of the 65-year-old Indus Waters Treaty, closing of the Attari land-border crossing, and the expulsion of Pakistani military attaches. All Pakistanis who entered India via the Attari land border were also asked to leave by May 1.
Responding to this, Pakistan on Thursday, shut down its airspace to all Indian airlines and suspended trade with New Delhi, including through third countries. It also rejected India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, saying any measures to stop the flow of water belonging to Pakistan would be seen as an act of war.
