Omicron Spreading In Community, 46% Covid Samples Positive For New Variant: Delhi Health Minister
The Health Minister said that there were 200 cases of Covid-19 in the national capital. Out of these 102 cases, 102 people infected were from Delhi while the rest 98 patients were from outside.
New Delhi: Covid-19 cases have been on a rise in Delhi and now it has been revealed that out of coronavirus samples tested by genome sequencing, 46 percent of them were found to be infected with the new omicron strain.
During a press briefing on Thursday, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain said, “Omicron variant found in 46 percent of 115 samples sequenced so far in Delhi.”
Jain hinted towards a community spread of the Omicron variant in New Delhi. He said that people who tested positive for the virus with the Omicron variant were found to have no travel history.
“People with no travel history were found infected with Omicron, which means it's gradually spreading in the community,” the Delhi Health Minister said.

Noting a surge in cases in Delhi, several restrictions were already imposed to contain the spread of the virus. Earlier this week on Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced the imposition of a yellow alert in the national capital under the Graded Response Action Plan.
Under the yellow alert, all the gyms, spas, banquet halls, auditoriums, and sports complexes were completely shut. Whereas the Delhi metro, restaurants, and bars were directed to operate at 50 percent capacity.
A night curfew was already in effect in New Delhi between 10 pm and 5 am.
