'Families Crushed, Limbless Bodies And Bloodbath': Odisha Rail Accident Survivors Recall Horror

Odisha Train Accident: A passenger recalled seeing limbless bodies and a bloodbath on the train tracks while another surviour said they felt their rescue was like having a rebirth.

Survivours in the tragic triple train accident in Odisha's Balasore have recalled their experience of seeing horrific scenes of deaths and desperate calls for help. The rescue operation in the tragic rail accident in Odisha's Balasore has been completed with 261 people dead and around 900 passengers injured. A passenger recalled seeing limbless bodies and a bloodbath on the train tracks while another surviour said they felt their rescue was like having a rebirth. The survivour stories come as more than 100 people have claimed ex gratia payments following the fatal incident.

A Twitter user named Anubhav Das expressed to have escaped the fatal rail accident unscathed and wrote, "Not to exaggerate but I have myself witnessed more than 200-250 deaths. Families crushed away, limbless bodies and a bloodbath on the train tracks. It was a sight that I will never forget. God help the families."

A family of three, who was travelling in one of the trains that were involved in Balasore Train Accident, survived and returned to their home in Malubasan village in Mahisadal, Purba Medinipur of West Bengal.

One of the survivours Subroto Pal said, "We left for Chennai from Kharagpur station yesterday. After Balasore station, the train felt a jolt. Then we saw the compartment filling with smoke. I could not see anyone. The local people came to my aid and they pulled me out of the wreckage".

His wife said that being able to live after seeing such a horrific accident "feels like a rebirth" and added that they will live with the scar of witnessing the incident.

"We are very scared. We were going to Chennai for our son's treatment, after crossing Balasore the accident happened. I was not  able to understand what was happening, after a strong jolt people started falling on one another, didn't think we would survive, feels like a rebirth, would always live our lives with this scar in our hearts, so much blood bath and cries for help were unimaginable," she said in Bengali.

Last evening, another train passenger recalled the horrific incident and told ANI: "I was sleeping at the time the train derailed. I noticed that there were about 10,15 people piled on top of me at the time. I am not sure about the numbers, but when I was rescued from the train, I noticed that some people had lost their legs, hands, and some of them had their faces disfigured."
