Efforts On To Manufacture Zika Virus Vaccine In India: NTAGI Chief

NTAGI chief Dr. NK Arora said that work is being done to manufacture a vaccine for the Zika virus. He also said that pregnant women and their children are also being monitored.

New Delhi: National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation chief Dr. NK Arora on Tuesday said that work is being done to manufacture a vaccine for the Zika virus. He also said that pregnant women and their children are also being monitored. “Work is being done to manufacture vaccine for Zika virus as well. We are trying if the vaccine for Zika can also be manufactured in India. We are monitoring pregnant women & their children,” news agency ANI quoted Arora as saying.

Talking about cervical cancer, the NTAGI chief said that it is curable with the HPV vaccine. “Cervical cancer is curable with the HPV vaccine. We hope India will soon be able to provide HPV vaccine for girls from 9-14 yrs in a national program,” ANI quoted Arora as saying.

Speaking to ANI he also said that, screening for the cervical disease after the age of 35 years is important. India has the largest burden of death due to cervical cancer globally & almost 80,000 cases occur annually, he added. “Screening for the cervical disease after the age of 35 years is important, early diagnosis is manageable at PHC.
