NSE Scam Case | CBI Finds Mysterious 'Himalayan Yogi' To Be Former NSE Official: Report

NSE Scam: The Securities and Exchange Board of India, in a report, had accused former NSE chief Chitra Ramkrishna of leaking classified information to a yogi who lived in the Himalayas.

New Delhi: The mysterious "Himalayan yogi" who advised former NSE chief Chitra Ramkrishna is none other than former chief strategic adviser Anand Subramanian himself, NDTV reported quoting CBI sources.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India, in a report, had accused Ramkrishna of leaking classified information to a yogi who lived in the Himalayas.

The report said it was Anand Subramanian who communicated with Chitra Ramkrishna through email as the "yogi".

Anand Subramanian was arrested by the CBI late Thursday night in Chennai. A special court on Friday sent Anand Subramanian to CBI custody till March 6 in the NSE fraud case.

Subramanian was brought to the NSE by Chitra Ramakrishna upon the advice of the so-called yogi, SEBI said in its report. He reportedly had access to the email ID on which the emails were sent to the yogi, IANS reported. Subramanian was later elevated as Group Operating Officer (GOO) at a salary of Rs 4.21 crore.

Ramakrishna, who succeeded former CEO Ravi Narain in 2013, had left the NSE in December 2016.

On February 11, SEBI charged Ramkrishna and others with alleged governance lapses in the appointment of Subramanian as the chief strategic adviser and his re-designation as group operating officer and advisor to MD.

SEBI also levied a fine of Rs 3 crore on Ramkrishna, Rs 2 crore each on Subramanian and Ravi Narain, and Rs 6 lakh on VR Narasimhan, who was the chief regulatory officer and compliance officer.

The CBI took cognisance of the Sebi report, which showed alleged abuse of power by the then top brass of the NSE, and questioned Ramkrishna, Narain and Subramanian.

The CBI has also opened a Look Out Circular against Chitra, Anand Subramanian and Ravi.
