We Are Here To Ask Questions In 'Chup Raho Republic': Mahua Moitra Slams BJP During No-Trust Debate
TMC MP Mahua Moitra slammed the BJP for allegedly turning India into a "chup raho" republic where no one was allowed to say anything against the government.
TMC MP Mahua Moitra on Thursday lashed out at the government, alleging that the BJP-led government had installed a system of "chup raho [keep quiet]" where no one is allowed to speak. She also referred to the allegations levelled by former Jammu & Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik to drive home her point.
Moitra, while speaking for the no-confidence motion, said: "We are here to ask the question in our 'tum abhi chup raho [You keep quiet now]' republic where the PM tells a Governor 'chup raho'." She was referring to Malik's allegation that PM Narendra Modi told him "chup raho" when he flagged security lapses before the 2019 Pulwama attack that claimed the lives of 40 CRPF jawans.

We as elected MPs in this House are routinely told 'chup raho'. This motion is to break this code of silence in Manipur. PM Modi will not listen to us; he will come on the last day and give his speech. I don't know what is more unfortunate, our PM refusing to come to Parliament or his denial to go to Manipur."
She further said: "This no-confidence motion is to break this code of silence on Manipur, the most pressing issue of the day, where we are all supposed to 'raho chup' [keep silent]. This is not just a no-confidence in government motion, this is a have-confidence-in-India motion."
Earlier in the day, Mahua Moitra slammed Union Minister Smriti Irani over her allegation of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi "disrespecting women with a flying kiss". "When a BJP MP was accused of harassment and molestation by our champion wrestlers, we didn’t hear a word out from the Women and Child (Development) minister and now she is talking about some 'flying kiss," Moitra said.
