New Excise Policy: Private Liquor Shops To Stay Shut In New Delhi From Oct 1 To Nov 16

According to the Kejriwal government's order, private liquor shops will remain closed between October 1 and November 16 to ensure the smooth implementation of the new excise system.

New Delhi: People may face difficulties in buying alcohol and beer in New Delhi, the capital city, from October 1. Private liquor shops will be closed from October 1 under the state government's new excise policy. The process to implement this policy has already started. Liquor sales in Delhi will resume from November 17.

According to the Kejriwal government's order, private liquor shops will remain closed between October 1 and November 16 to ensure the smooth implementation of the new excise system. After the government's decision, private liquor shops are no longer restocking liquor. The remaining stock is also running out faster now.

13 private liquor shops to be closed at DLF Galleria Mall

DLF Galleria Mall in Mayur Vihar Phase-I, Delhi, has 13 private liquor shops with L-10 licences. However, their licences could not be renewed and all these shops will be closed after September 30. ''We are normal shop owners, we don't have enough money to renew licences,'' Karun Saxena, who looks after the work of an accountant in one of these shops, told news agency ANI.

Delhi High Court seeks reply from the state government

On the other hand, the Delhi High Court had sought the response of the Delhi government on two petitions filed by retail liquid vendors requesting to extend their licences till November 16 in parity with other categories under the provisions of the Delhi Excise Act.
