Negligence In Home Isolation The Reason For Increasing Covid Rate In Kerala: Central Team

Kerala reported more than 20,000 new covid-19 cases for six consecutive days, with new infection cases at 13,984 on Monday.

New Delhi: A high-level multi-disciplinary team deployed by the Central governmnet in its report concluded that negligence in home isolation has led to the spread of Coronavirus in Kerala.

A team of six-member experts headed by Dr. Surjit Singh, the director of NCDS, was rushed to Kerala on July 29  to take stock of the Covid situation and recommend necessary public health interventions.

The team in its report told that the reason behind the increase in infection here is that people in home isolation in the state were not being monitored closely enough.

According to one of the sources, a high official said, "Earlier it was being said that the infection rate is high in the states with minority population. The team has found that Pathanamthitta district, which is minority dominated, is actually showing positivity of around 6.5-7 per cent. While other districts have shown 12-13 per cent infection rate, and some even 17%. Therefore, it may not be correct to say that more coronavirus is spreading in the districts with minority population in Kerala."

According to the source, the team said, "People living in home isolation were not being monitored properly. Those who have been found corona positive are in home isolation, they are generally moving in the neighbourhood, and hence spreading the infection. This is a preliminary assessment. The team is now visiting some such districts where the infection rate is very high.

The team of experts, which is visiting districts with high infection rate, will soon give a detailed report.

The state witnessed 13,984 positive cases of Coronavirus while 118 recent deaths were confirmed as caused by Covid, taking the related death toll in the state to 16,956. The test positivity rate is at 10.93%.

So far, 32,42,684 people have recovered from coronavirus infection in the state, even as 1,65,322 patients are still undergoing treatment for the same.
