Sidhu On Sacrilege Cases: Be It Quran, Gita Or Guru Granth Sahib, Guilty Should Be Hanged In Public

On December 18, an unidentified man was beaten to death after he allegedly attempted to commit sacrilege inside the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

New Delhi: Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu has called for giving the harshest punishment to those guilty of sacrilege, even saying that such people should be hanged in public.

The statement comes after a man was beaten to death for an alleged sacrilege bid at the Golden Temple in Amritsar on December 18. Then, another person was killed for allegedly disrespecting ‘Nishan Sahib’ (Sikh religious flag) at a gurdwara in Punjab’s Kapurthala on Sunday morning.

Addressing a rally at Malerkotla on Sunday, Navjot Singh Sidhu said: “A conspiracy is going on to disrupt Punjab’s peace. Wherever sacrilege takes place, be it of Quran Sharif or Bhagavad Gita or Guru Granth Sahib, they (guilty) should be hanged in public and given harshest Constitutional punishment…”.

“The harshest punishment should be given (to guilty) because this is hurting our sentiments... anyone can make mistakes but this is not merely a mistake,” he added.

He further stressed that “it is a conspiracy to end a community. It is a plot to damage our roots”.

Pitching for unity, the Punjab Congress President urged people to vote for responsible leadership: “This is why I say India is undivided... do away with the mentality of ruling. Bring a leader who is like a father figure”.

On December 18, an unidentified man was beaten to death after he allegedly attempted to commit sacrilege inside the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple in Amritsar.

The shocking incident garnered sharp reactions from political leaders, with Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi ordering a probe into it.

However, as for the alleged sacrilege bid in Kapurthala, Inspector General of police Gurinder Singh Dhillon informed that there is no visible event of sacrilege at the gurdwara. Everything was found intact including the holy Guru Granth Sahib, he added

He further stated that three cops including a station house officer were injured as they were trying to save the man from the unruly mob.

Amrinder Singh “Licking The Feet Of Modi”: Navjot Sidhu

Meanwhile in another rally on Monday, Punjab Pradesh Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu launched a scathing attack on Captain Amarinder Singh over his party’s alliance with the BJP.

He said the former chief minister is now “sitting at home” and is “licking the feet” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, news agency ANI reported.
While addressing a gathering in Kapurthala, Sidhu called the former Chief minister an “arrogant king”.

Recalling Amrinder Singh’s statements, Sidhu remarked: “Captain (Amarinder Singh) said that doors have been closed for Sidhu, but see today...he is sitting at home and is licking the feet of Modi.”

The power tussle between Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu led to months of in-fighting within Congress, finally culminating into Captain’s resignation first as chief minister and then from the party.

As per ANI sources, BJP is likely to keep a major share of seats in the alliance with Captain Amarinder Singh-led Punjab Lok Congress.

The verbal attacks come as all parties are in campaign mode ahead of the assembly elections next year wherein AAP and SAD seek to dethrone Congress in Punjab, while the Amarinder Singh-led Punjab Lok Congress-BJP alliance also hopes to secure victory.
