Navjot Sidhu To Get Top Post In Punjab Congress, CM Amarinder Singh To Head Election Campaign: Sources

Navjot Singh Sidhu has been openly critical of CM Amarinder Singh and his governance, displaying an open rift within Punjab Congress leadership.

New Delhi: While the Congress party's infighting in its Punjab unit continues to gain the attention of political experts, the leadership has devised a new formula that enables both Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu to work together. The information in this regard was revealed by Congress' Punjab in-charge Harish Rawat.

"The party is working on a formula to appoint two working presidents and elections will be fought under the leadership of the Chief Minister," Harish Rawat said.

No official announcement has been made so far in this regard but sources report that Navjot Singh Sidhu is likely to get the post of party's state head with two working presidents in his team, and Amarinder Singh will spearhead Congress into the upcoming elections.

An official announcement about this is going to be made soon.

Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu has been openly critical of CM Amarinder Singh and his governance and is believed to have his concerns regarding the same to party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi during their recent meeting.

A three-member committee headed by senior party leader Mallikarjun Kharge was set up to resolve the issues and had submitted its report. Amarinder Singh and Sidhu, among other state leaders, had also met the committee members.

Meanwhile, sources said that the formula has been devised after the meeting with Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and poll strategist Prashant Kishor, who is also Amarinder Singh's principal advisor.

However, talking about discussions on the Punjab infighting, Harish Rawat had earlier clarified that that "Kishor did not come to negotiate on the Punjab issue".

Downplaying Kishor's meeting with Rahul Gandhi, he added: "Rahul Gandhi is a national leader. All kinds of people meet him and talk to him, and he may take inputs. That does not mean Prashant Kishor has come to negotiate on Punjab affairs. Harish Rawat will speak to Rahul Gandhi on Punjab affairs".

"Had anything on Punjab been discussed, I would have been engaged," he asserted.

About the Punjab announcement, the "good news" is going to come in the next three to four days, he informed saying that both Congress leaders at loggerheads had said that the decision of the leadership would be acceptable to them.
