Muslim Clerics Hail Supreme Court Decision On UP Madrasa Act

Following the Supreme Court's decision on the UP Madrasa Act, Muslim scholars and community members on Tuesday welcomed the ruling, calling it praiseworthy. Prominent cleric Maulana Qari Ishaq Gora said there had been efforts to restrict the rights of the Muslim community and restrict their constitutional freedoms, particularly around education — a vital need for the community. He said there were attempts to curtail educational opportunities for Muslims.

Maulana Gora stressed the Supreme Court's decision had reaffirmed the respect the community has always held for the judiciary. Thanking the bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, Gora said: “We have always said that whatever decision the Supreme Court makes, we shall accept it wholeheartedly,” he said.

Maulana Gora explained that when a "mistake" is made, it is natural to seek recourse at higher levels, whether the issue involves a community or an individual. He praised the Supreme Court for acknowledging the significance of this case and delivering a commendable decision. He stressed the urgent need for Muslim communities to receive more educational support and authority, allowing them to become educated any obstacles. He urged leaders and government officials to facilitate education for Muslims and actively support their progress.

Haji Chand Miyan, a social activist, shared his joy with the decision, saying that the Muslim community of the country was happy with the verdict. He explained that madrasas serve as centres of education and have been wrongly portrayed by some, leading to a petition in the high court. After challenging the high court's decision, the Supreme Court ruling has come in favour of the community, bringing relief. He highlighted that this decision enables modern education within madrasas, offering students the opportunity to study, advance, and walk on the path of progress.
