Mumbai Police File Chargesheet Against Param Bir Singh, Sachin Waze In Goregaon Extortion Case

Besides the former top cop, dismissed police officer Sachin Waze, Sumit Singh and Alpesh Patel have been named as accused in the chargesheet.

Mumbai: The Mumbai Police on Saturday filed a chargesheet against former city police commissioner Param Bir Singh and three others in an extortion case registered in suburban Goregaon.

Besides the former top cop, dismissed police officer Sachin Waze, Sumit Singh and Alpesh Patel have been named as accused in the chargesheet.

The crime branch filed the 400-page chargesheet before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S B Bhajipale.

“400-page chargesheet filed against Param Bir Singh, Sachin Waze, Alpesh Patel and Sumit Singh in Goregaon alleged extortion case. Singh and Waze will be served a copy each on the next date of the case,” ANI quoted Special Public Prosecutor Shekhar Jagtap as saying.

The complainant Bimal Agarwal has alleged the accused extorted Rs 9 lakh from him for not conducting a raid on two bars and restaurants, which he ran in partnership.

Agarwal also alleged that they forced him to buy two smartphones worth around Rs 2.92 lakh for them, PTI reported.

The FIR was registered under Sections 384 and 385 (both pertaining to extortion) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC against six accused in the case.

This is the first chargesheet against the former city police commissioner, who was removed from the top post earlier in March this year.

The 1988-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, who is facing a slew of FIRs in Mumbai and the satellite towns after the seizure of explosives outside Antilia and the murder of Thane businessman Mansukh Hiren, was suspended by the Maharashtra government earlier on Thursday.
