Mukhtar Ansari Denied Food & Water During Transfer To Banda Jail, Alleges Brother Afzal Ansari

Afzal Ansari, the BSP MP from Ghazipur, alleged that his brother “was not given water and food on the way and was also denied medical aid” in over 15 hours journey.

Lucknow: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Afzal Ansari alleged that inhuman treatment was meted out to gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari while he was being shifted from Punjab’s Ropar prison to Uttar Pradesh’s Banda jail.

Afzal Ansari on Wednesday hit out at Yogi Adityanath-led government and said it would have been better had his brother Mukhtar Ansari been "made to stand at some road crossing and shot dead." Afzal Ansari, the BSP MP from Ghazipur, alleged that his brother “was not given water and food on the way and was also denied medical aid” in over 15 hours journey.

“Due to this, he became unwell and reached Banda jail in a semi-unconscious state,” he added.

The BSP MP further said Yogi Adityanath-led government has “left behind Britishers by such acts”.

“Contrary to the jail manual, Mukhtar has been kept in isolation barrack. Those who have to protect laws are creating terror. It would have been better that he (Mukhtar) was made to stand at some road crossing and shot dead,” PTI quoted Afzal Ansari as saying.

He also alleged the jail administration is not accepting the request to provide a doctor to his diabetic brother, whose blood sugar level and blood pressure have increased.

The Uttar Pradesh government, however, rubbished the accusation stating “a team of Banda Medical college doctors did his check-up and found no immediate health issues”.

“Mukhtar Ansari would be tested for Covid-19 later in the day inside the jail. According to the Supreme Court orders, with the help of district administration and Chief Medical officer, Banda, his health arrangements are being ensured,” the state government said in a statement.

Informing Mukhtar Ansari will be kept in barrack number 16 under 24-hour camera surveillance, the state government further said elaborate arrangements have been made inside the prison.

Mukhtar Ansari, the BSP MLA from Uttar Pradesh’s Mau Sadar seat, is facing 52 cases in the state and elsewhere. He is facing trial in over a dozen cases.
