Now MP Police Register FIR Against Twitter On Distorted India Map Controversy

“FIR has been registered in the cyber cell against the management of Twitter India under Section 505/2,” Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra posted on the micro-blogging platform.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra on Tuesday said the state government will take legal action against Twitter over a distorted map of India.

“A very serious case of tampering with the map of India has come to light on Twitter. There have been a lot of complaints against Twitter in this regard from many political-social organizations. The higher officials of the Home Department have investigated and taken cognizance of this,” Mishra tweeted in Hindi.

“On this basis #FIR has been registered in the cyber cell against the management of Twitter India under Section 505/2,” he posted on the micro-blogging platform.

The Madhya Pradesh Home Minister’s remarks come as Twitter India earlier on Monday got embroiled in a fresh row over carrying a distorted map of India on its careers page.

Earlier in the day, an FIR was lodged against Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari and another company official in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district over an incorrect map of India on its website, which showed Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as separate countries.

The FIR was lodged based on a complaint filed by a Bajrang Dal office-bearer last evening. Twitter later on Monday removed the map after drawing criticism.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police Cyber Cell on Tuesday lodged an FIR against Twitter on a complaint it received from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).

The case has been registered against Twitter for reportedly displaying child pornographic content on its platform.

This comes amid the ongoing tussle between the Central government and Twitter over the new IT rules.

In the meantime, the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday adjourned the proceedings to July 5 in a matter pertaining to the Twitter India MD, who was earlier issued notice by the Ghaziabad Police in a probe related to the assault of an elderly Muslim man recently.
