More Than Half Of India’s Eligible Adult Population Fully Vaccinated Against Covid-19: Union Health Minister

According to the press release by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare the cumulative figure of vaccination in the country has crossed 127 million mark. 

New Delhi: In the race against Covid-19, India has passed another milestone to fully vaccinate more than half of the eligible adult population of the country. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed about the same in a tweet and congratulated the people of the country. 

In his tweet, Mandaviya wrote, “We will succeed. Congratulations India. It is a moment of great pride as over 50% of the eligible population are now fully vaccinated. We will win the battle against COVID-19 together.”

According to the press release by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare the cumulative figure of vaccination in the country has crossed 127 million mark. 

The Covid-19 vaccination drive commenced on January 16 this year and was initially started with the Health Care Workers only. In the second phase that began from February 2, vaccination was opened for the frontline workers. These included Central and State Police personnel, Personnel from Armed Forces, Home Guards, Volunteers of Civil Defence and Disaster Management, Municipal Workers, Prison Staff, Panchayati Raj Institution Staff and Revenue Workers involved in containment and surveillance, Railway Protection Force and Election Staff. 

In the subsequent phases of vaccination, the range was widened. On March 1, senior citizens above 60 years of age and people above 45 years of age with 20 specific comorbidities were made eligible to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. On April 1, the ambit was further expanded to include all the people above 45 years of age to receive the vaccine. The vaccination drive was opened for all the adults above the age of 18 from May 1.
