Monsoon To Hit Southern Coast Tomorrow, Scattered Rainfall In North India

Fairly widespread to widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely over west coastal Southern India. Heavy rain is likely over isolated places of Kerala from Sunday to Thursday

The southwest monsoon is likely to hit over the Kerala coast on Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in its latest forecast on Sunday.

"Conditions are likely to become favourable for onset of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala around 31st May 2021," the IMD said in a statement.

"Due to strengthening of southerly winds, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy falls very likely over North-eastern states and adjoining East India from Sunday itself", the weather department said.

A cyclonic circulation could form over Andhra Pradesh on Sunday and bring scattered to fairly widespread rain with isolated heavy rain over the state on Sunday and Monday.

Another cyclonic circulation lies over east Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas and brings fairly widespread rain and thunderstorm over Bihar on Sunday. The cyclonic circulation is likely to move gradually eastward over the next few days.

The normal onset date for the monsoon's arrival over Kerala is June 1. This also marks the commencement of four-month rainfall season from June to September.

The IMD had said last month the country was expected to get average monsoon rains this year which is important for production which will help the nation's economy to be on track amid the Coronavirus lockdown and slow business.
