Money from cow smuggling used in terrorism: DIG

JIND: Stringent laws have been devised to stop the killing and trafficking of cows in Haryana, Defence Task Force In-charge and Deputy Inspector General of Police Bharti Arora said on Wednesday. Bharti Arora, who has been appointed to check smuggling and slaughter of cows, also said that cow smuggling and slaughtering is an organised crime and money earned from it is used in terrorism. "Several groups are working behind this and money obtained from smuggling of cows is being used to kill people and spread terrorism. It's an organised crime with a turnover of Rs 15,000 crore annually," she said. "A provision to give ten years of imprisonment has been made for killing a cow. Keeping and selling cow meat has been banned in the state. The department is working towards stopping people involved in cow trafficking," she added. She said a Gau Rakshak (cow protector) should inform the police as and when he gets any tip-off about cow trafficking so that the offenders could be taken to task in time. Arora also held a meeting with the police officers where she gave information on Cow Protection and Promotion Act in detail and asked them to work in compliance with it. She said the laws have been made stricter and the vehicles involved in the act will be auctioned. (With PTI inputs)
