‘Mockery, Not Mimicry’: BJP Protests Against Oppn Over TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee's Act

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said that the people and Constitution of the country will give a reply to the Opposition.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday took to streets to protest against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee for his mimicry of Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.

On Tuesday, while protesting outside the Parliament against mass suspension of MPs from opposition parties, Banerjee appeared to mimic the way Dhankhar walked by leaning forward and made reference to having a spine. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who was also present at the spot, was seen making a video of Banerjee's act.

BJP leader Bansuri Swaraj accused the Opposition of insulting democracy and said they were protesting against the "objectionable conduct".

"This was not mimicry but mockery," she said, adding: "This was an insult to a son of the Jat community, an insult to the son of a farmer, an insult to the Vice President. How will the workers of BJP not be distressed.”

"Mimicry of the Vice President, this attitude towards those holding Constitutional posts - people of the country as well as the Constitution of the country will give them a reply," said BJP MP Manoj Tiwari.

"Rahul Gandhi, Congress and their alliance will have to bear its brunt," he added.

BJP MLA Ramvir Singh Bidhuri demanded the Rahul Gandhi apologise to Dhankhar and said that Mamata Banerjee should expel Kalyan Banerjee.

BJP leaders in Patna also took out a protest march against the TMC MP.

Bihar BJP chief Samrat Choudhary, who also participated in the protest said, "The kind of act that was done by the people of the INDI Alliance clearly shows that they are anti-farmers. They don't want to see a farmer's son as the Vice President. So, they are mocking democracy.
