Mamata Banerjee 'Saint' Or 'Devil'? Here's What Congress Leader Adhir Ranjan Said About Bengal CM: WATCH

Earlier today, Banerjee had claimed that her mic was muted during the NITI Aayog meeting, when she raised the issue of Bengal being denied funds from the Centre.

After West Bengal Chief Minister Mamat Banerjee stormed off the NITI Aayog meeting, accusing that her micropone was switched off while she was speaking, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury reacted to her claims saying that he "felt like she is lying". He also lashed out at Banerjee over her party, Trinamool Congress's behaviour with opposition parties in the state.

"When Mamata Banerjee comes to Delhi she becomes a saint but her party is devil in Bengal," he said.

Earlier today, Banerjee claimed that her mic was muted just when she raised the issue of Bengal being denied funds from the Centre and was only allowed to speak for five minutes.

"Chandrababu Naidu was given 20 minutes to speak. The chief ministers of Assam, Goa, Chhattisgarh spoke for 10–12 minutes. I registered my protest and came out," the Trinamool Congress chief stated.

She had also said that this move was an insult to Bengal and all its regional parties.

Commenting on the allegations by the Bengal CM, Chowdhury said: "The things that Mamata Banerjee is saying regarding NITI Aayog meeting, I feel like she is lying...it is very surprising if a state's CM wouldn't be allowed to speak. Mamata Banerjee knew what would be happening there...she had the script..."

'Becomes Saint In Delhi, But TMC Is Devil In Bengal': Chowdhury

The Congress leader slammed Mamata Banerjee and TMC over the "anarchy in Bengal". Chowdhary alleged that the representatives of the opposition parties are "forcefully made to join TMC" for which they are either "bribed" or "beaten".

"Representatives of the opposition workers are forcefully made to join their party by beating them or by bribing them. If somebody refuses to listen to them, they will be killed. In Jalpaiguri, our worker was mercilessly killed by tying him to a tree," he said.

He further remarked: "When Mamata Banerjee comes to Delhi she becomes a saint but her party is devil in Bengal."

The Congress leader also spoke about the situation in the state during Lok Sabha elections.

" The kind of anarchy we are getting to face in Bengal irrespective of whether the election is there or not...in Municipal election, we did not get the chance to vote...forcefully they win elections...during the Lok Sabha elections, there were security forces deployed by centre so in some places voting happened peacefully but we can't surely say everywhere voting happened peacefully..." he claimed.

This is not the first time that he has spoken against the Bengal CM. During elections, the former Congress state chief had slammed Banerjee for being an "opportunistic politician" who had "lost her credibility". His remarks had come after Banerjee said that she would support I.N.D.I.A block from outside.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had resigned from his post of president of West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee after he was defeated in Congress's own bastion Berhampore in the Lok Sabha polls.

Centre Refutes Banerjee's Claims

The Centre on Saturday rebuffed Banerjee's claims over her mic being muted. The government's fact checking body called her claims "misleading" and stated that "only the clock showed that her speaking time was over. Even the bell was not rung to mark it."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the ninth governing council meeting of NITI Aayog on Saturday, to discuss making India a developed nation by 2047 on agenda.
